Adaptive Re-Use/Tenant Fit-Up
This project comprises interior tenant improvements for video editing company Vidyard at 8 Queen St North in Downtown Kitchener, Ontario. The existing heritage “brick and beam” buildings’ many unconventional features created opportunities and challenges for the design and construction team throughout the project. In the end, the 3-storey office space fuses the building’s character and history together with various contemporary elements to perfectly match the dynamic energy of the company it houses. Conceived in partnership with Interior Designer Dfy Studio, unique features include a meeting room in a converted steel shipping container, a foam pit, and a rooftop patio, as well as custom millwork throughout the space including terraced seating, call booths, and shelving made from reclaimed timber. The successful realization of this project required extensive coordination with the local authorities having jurisdiction to resolve challenging building and fire code issues related to the conversion of the existing structure for office use.
