This modular pilot project aimed at offering a solution to the growing housing shortage crisis impacting our regional communities by utilizing some of the efficiencies and flexibility of modular construction. We also wanted to pursue innovation and collaboration between community stakeholders and the construction industry (both modular and conventional). This project serves as a prototype for other Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) like it AND as a prototype for stackable multi-res MODULAR apartments. We started with the design of this 2- bedroom modular duplex addition that met all “as of right” zoning and building code regulations. We then worked with a large North American fabricator of modular living environments and collaborated with them on this project at their new local manufacturing facility. The modular process allows us to overlap plant fabrication and sitework timelines to deliver the project in a more efficient and economical way. Check out the time-lapse video below.
